Acupuncture and Infertility

Have you ever wondered about the treatment of infertility with traditional medicines and acupuncture? When pregnancy is desired but you are having difficulty, one option is to consider acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

Infertility, postpartum disorders, premenstrual disorders, irregular periods, heavy bleeding, endometriosis, hormone related emotional imbalances, pelvic pain, menopausal symptoms, as well as many other gynecologic disorders can be treated with the help of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

My own experience suggests that acupuncture and Chinese herbology are more effective and much less unpleasant and dangerous than hormonal treatments or surgery to treat infertility. Compared to these methods of treatment, the cost of acupuncture therapy is also quite reasonable. Surgical and complex hormonal therapy may cost 40 to 100 times more, and involves considerably higher risk of causing side effects. Laboratory methods of creating pregnancy have also not been proven to be safe, and the long term effect on babies is still under study.

When skillfully applied, acupuncture therapy and Chinese herbal medicine are effective in correcting many of the imbalances which underlie the complex physical and hormonal disorders which lead to reduced fertility or infertility.

Both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicines are used to address the symptoms and signs of endometriosis, as well as other hormonal imbalances which reduce the chances for pregnancy. Surgery for this problem can increase scarring of tissues, which paradoxically reduces the chances for pregnancy. Drugs such as clomid and hormone therapy create further imbalances that ultimately reduce fertility by accelerating the aging of the reproductive system.

The treatment of infertility with acupuncture usually requires a commitment to enough time to rebalance the body's systems. If there are menstrual problems, then treatment must proceed until at least 3 normal cycles are achieved. From there, you should give yourself at least 6 months, and preferably 18 months, to achieve pregnancy.
